What this covers

These terms apply to your use of Rudder, an Android app that adds a check-in in front of apps you choose to manage. By installing or using Rudder, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use the app.

Who can use Rudder

Rudder is intended for users 13 and older. If you're under the age required by your local law to agree to these terms on your own, please have a parent or guardian review them with you first.

What Rudder is — and isn't

Rudder is a self-directed attention tool. It shows a brief check-in before apps you've chosen, and — for apps set to adaptive mode — adjusts that check-in based on your own behavior over time. You choose which apps it manages and can change or remove them at any time.

Rudder is not a medical device, and it isn't a substitute for professional support with addiction, compulsive behavior, or any mental health condition. If you're dealing with something more serious than wanting a bit more friction before a habit, please talk to a qualified professional — Rudder isn't built or intended to handle that.

Your responsibilities

• Rudder relies on Android's Accessibility Service permission to work — you grant this permission knowingly, and can revoke it at any time in your device settings (Rudder will stop functioning until it's re-granted).
• Don't use Rudder to try to restrict or monitor someone else's device without their knowledge and consent. It's built for managing your own habits on your own phone.
• You're responsible for keeping your device itself secure — Rudder's data lives locally, so anyone with access to your unlocked phone has the same access to it you do.

No warranty

Rudder is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind. This is an early-stage app under active development — things may break, behave unexpectedly, or change between versions. We work to fix real issues quickly, but we can't promise the app will be error-free or available at all times.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Rudder and its developer aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including — but not limited to — missed notifications, unintended access to a managed app, or data loss from an uninstall or local device failure.

Changes

We may update the app and these terms as Rudder develops. We'll update the date at the top of this page when we do. Continuing to use Rudder after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Ending your use

You can stop using Rudder at any time by uninstalling it. We may also discontinue or change the app at our discretion, particularly at this early stage.
