Privacy Policy

The short version

As of this update, Rudder does not send any of your data off your device. Everything it records — which apps you opened, how you responded to a check-in, how its adaptive settings have changed over time — stays in a local database on your phone. There is no account, no server, and nothing to sign in to. The rest of this page explains that in detail, including one planned exception (crash reporting) that isn't active yet.

Information Rudder collects

To do its job, Rudder records, locally on your device only:

• Which of the apps you chose to manage were opened, and when.
• How you responded to each check-in — continued, went back, requested temporary access — and roughly how long you spent in the app afterward.
• The adaptive settings Rudder has arrived at for each app, and the history behind why (so a "Rudder is learning" result can show real before/after numbers, not a vague claim).

Rudder does not collect your name, email, contacts, messages, photos, location, browsing history, or the on-screen content of any app — including the apps it manages.

How the Accessibility permission is used

Rudder asks for Android's Accessibility Service permission for one purpose: to detect the moment a managed app comes to the foreground, so it can show a check-in before you're inside it. Concretely, that means:

• It watches for a window changing to the foreground — nothing more granular than that.
• It does not read the text or contents of any screen, in Rudder or in any other app.
• It does not log keystrokes, take screenshots, or record audio or video.
• It does not simulate taps, gestures, or any other input — it only observes, and only shows its own check-in screen.
• It never inspects anything about apps you haven't explicitly chosen to manage, beyond the bare fact that you switched to one of them (which is how it knows you left a managed app).

Where your data lives

Everything above is stored in a local database on your device, created and managed by the app itself. Uninstalling Rudder, or using its "Start over" option, removes it. Nothing is backed up to a server Rudder controls, because no such server currently exists.

Crash and diagnostic reporting — planned, not yet active

We plan to add Firebase Crashlytics so that if Rudder crashes or behaves unexpectedly, we can find and fix it — the kind of information that's very hard to get from "it broke" descriptions alone. This is not implemented yet. When it is, this section will describe exactly what it sends (limited to crash/diagnostic data — device model, OS version, and the state of the app at the time of a crash) and this policy will be updated to reflect it before it ships.

What we don't do

• No advertising, and no ad-tracking SDKs of any kind.
• No selling, renting, or otherwise sharing your data with third parties.
• No accounts, so there's no profile of you to build in the first place.

Deleting your data

Because everything lives on your device, you're always in control of it directly: use "Start over" in the app's settings to wipe it immediately, or uninstall the app. If Crashlytics is active by the time you read this and you'd like any crash reports tied to your device removed, write to the address below.

Children's privacy

Rudder is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

If what Rudder collects changes — most likely when crash reporting goes live — we'll update this page and its "last updated" date. This is an early-stage app under active development; check back if it's been a while.

Rudder's business model isn't finalized yet. If we introduce advertising or additional data collection in the future to support the app, we'll rewrite the relevant sections of this policy with the real specifics before that change takes effect — not just a vague mention — update our Play Console Data Safety disclosure to match, and ask for your consent first wherever the law requires it, rather than treating a policy update alone as sufficient notice.
